Leaf peeping

Well the leaf peepers have come out in droves! There seemed to be a steady stream of cars driving by the house today. I guess I’m not surprised too much since there was a recent article in the local newspaper about how one of the best scenic drives in the state for leaf peeping is on the road that goes right past my house! And the foliage is at peak right now; there are a lot of red leaves, which makes for really spectacular viewing!

I went out on the lake today in the canoe to enjoy some of the leaf color myself.  It is especially pretty to see the colors reflecting off the surface of the lake.  This time of year it is so peaceful and tranquil on the lake.  I don’t like the thought that winter is coming fast, but this season is nice is many ways all on its own.  The air is crisp and clear, and the nights are cool enough for some great sleeping.  And it’s possible to do a little bit of yardwork without battling the biting insects and without working up a terrible sweat.

In the Central Maine area, there is usually about a seven to ten cents a gallon price difference in gasoline between the two cities of Waterville and Augusta.   Waterville is usually more expensive.  I’ve been told that the reason is that it costs more money to deliver gas to Waterville, and that is the reason for the price difference.  These two cities are so close together that I think that is a load of hogwash!  I think that there is something much more along the lines of “illegal price fixing” going on.  It has always been this way, however, and I am sure there is nothing I can do about it other than to always try to buy my gas in Augusta!

Carol called me today, telling me that her hubby gave her a gift certificate for their 10th wedding anniversary for Scottsdale day spa services.  She was so excited about it that she just had to call me up to share her excitement.  She’s never been to any kind of spa before, but has wanted to go to one for the past several years.

The gift certificate is to a spa called Sami Tailyr’s Salon and Day Spa, which is located right in Scottsdale Arizona, which is not very far away from where Carol lives.  So she is thrilled that she is not going to have to travel a long distance to go get her spa treatments.  According to their website, Sami Tailyr’s spa was created to give the Scottsdale working woman first class spa style pampering at reasonable, down to earth prices.  Their motto is “Resort Spa Service…. Day Spa Prices….”

I looked at their website and saw that they are both a hair salon, offering full service beautician services, and a day spa.  Their website is beautifully done, and makes me want to join Carol!  I’ve never been big on manicures and pedicures, but I sure could appreciate some pampering, and that is what a spa is all about!

She said that the gift card was for their Spa sampler which includes a Swedish Massage, a facial, a manicure and a pedicure.  I’ve never had any of those - I don’t even know what’s involved in a Swedish massage!  But I know from their website that you can buy one for various amounts of time.  I’ve had a professional massage therapy massage before and that was nice, I imagine a Swedish massage would be a lot nicer!  Maybe I should fly out there and join Carol for her spa trip!

According to an article in time.com, there is a big controversy surrounding a tourism campaign that was intended to attract tourists to South Carolina from London.  The controversy is that the advertising company put up posters in the “gay” district of London touting South Carolina as a great place for gay people to vacation, proclaiming that South Carolina is “so gay.”  The ads mention gay beaches, among other non-specific tourist attractions.

This has upset a lot of people, most notable those conservative government official type people who are upset that $5000 of the taxpayers money went to pay for those ads.  So now charges of homophobia are being slung around.  I’m sure glad I don’t work for one of those companies involved in that mess!

A few months ago a dear lady, well loved in our community, was in a bad car accident.  The accident has left her partially paralyzed.  Our town has pulled together to help renovate her house to make it handicapped accessible, one of the community service groups built a wheelchair ramp for her house.  New our area churches are holding fund raising events to help pay for her to be able to buy a handicapped van.  Handicapped Vans are a wonderful invention. There is a great selection of new and used wheelchair accessible vans available for sale at the imedmobility.com website.
