Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in geriatric patients over the age of eighty.  Cataracts develop slowly over time and cause gradual loss of sight.  Cataracts can affect one, or both eyes, and are not a contagious disease.  Cataracts are treatable through surgery.  Historically cataract surgery has been an expensive option that many patients have been unable to afford.  Until now.  There is a new organization called Cataract Free America that has dedicated itself to making cataract surgery completely affordable, even free in some cases to qualified cataract patients.  The association is made up of United States doctors who will reduce their fees for eligible seniors, accept existing insurance as payment in full (meaning charging no co-pay) and will provide surgery for free for those seniors who have no insurance.

I was reading on the Time.com website that there is a shortage of bananas in Japan because of the popularity of a new diet fad called the morning banana diet.  The “diet” consists of eating one (or as many as you want) bananas for breakfast with a glass of water, and eating anything you want for lunch and dinner (as long as you skip dessert) and you have to go to bed before midnight.  People seem to think this diet works, so they are buying up bananas as soon as they reach the store shelves!  I haven’t noticed a shortage of bananas around here yet, I wonder if the fad will hit here too!

Fleece lined jeans
Posted by Noel at 11:47 am in General Living, Health and Beauty, Shopping

Yesterday I was shopping and was delighted to find fleece lined jeans for $19.50 in the menswear department!  I love flannel lined and fleece lined jeans, and the ones I wore last winter were getting a little bit threadbare (yes, I wore them THAT MUCH!) so I bought a pair.  I would have bought more, but they only had one pair in my size.  I don’t know why they don’t sell great stuff like that in the ladies department - they must think that women don’t get cold!  I am wearing them right now, they are nice and toasty warm!  I definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a little extra warmth in the cooler seasons!

Lab88

Lab88 has a website where they claim to be the Health Center for the Stars, and that they sell the Best Diet Pills on the market.  I was looking on their website and saw that they sell Hoodia 750 (which has gotten a lot of publicity for helping people to lose weight) and Metabospeed, which claims to increase your metabolism.  Increasing your metabolism is one proven way to lose weight, so that probably is a good diet pill to take.

They also sell a colon cleansing product called Co-Clean.  Colon cleansing seems to be “all the rage” nowadays, the theory behind that is that you can detox your system and lose a lot of weight by flushing your colon with these cleansing products.

Lab88 states that their products are safe, natural and effective.  Before starting any program that involves taking pills, please check with your doctor!

I was reading an article on the LATimes website that a recent study of bottled water has shown that in many cases the bottled water is no safer than regular tap water. The article did not say what brands of water was tested (and I sure wish it HAD said that) but it indicated that in the ten brands tested there were contaminants such as bacteria and 38 chemicals. The chemicals include caffeine, acetaminophen, fertilizer, solvents, plastic ingredients and strontium (which is radioactive.)

That freaks me out! Bottled water with strontium in it? I’m not sure I’ll ever buy bottled water again! I think I’m better off buying soda if I’m “out and about” and thirsty and without my own refreshment!
