My father is an avid hunter.  It really doesn’t much matter WHAT hunting season it is, he loves to tromp around the woods hunting.  It was a family tradition in his family for generations.  He says he’s been hunting since he could walk!  He started out hunting with his grandfather and father, and now he hunts with my brothers.  He doesn’t usually come home with anything; I think he just enjoys being outdoors communing with nature and being with the “men folk.”

For Christmas this year I’ve ordered him a pair of Nikon Monarch and Trailblazer Binoculars from the nikonhunting.com website.  The binoculars I’ve ordered are the Monarch 10×36 binoculars; they are lightweight so it will be easy for him to carry them around with him all day when he is out hunting.  I’m sure he is going to love them - he has been complaining for the past year about how heavy his old binoculars are!  What’s even better is that the website that I’m ordering them from is having a promotion that will result in a $50 gift card towards another purchase from their website - so he will be getting the opportunity to buy an additional gift of his own choosing!  So he’s getting two gifts in one!  I’m sure he will be thrilled!

I have a dear friend who has tried a few different online personals services - the kind where you have to pay some money and answer a bunch of questions and then they supposedly match you up with who they think you will like.  He hasn’t had good luck with that - they say his answers come up with a personality that is too complicated to match up!  He’s gotten discouraged.  I found a Personals website that is absolutely free that I am going to tell him to try.  You type in your gender, whether you are looking for a male or female, what age range, the area you are looking in and it shows you results of other people who might be interested in meeting YOU.   I hope this will help him to find someone new!

We love to eat food that has been cooked on our gas grill.  During the warmer seasons we put the grill out on the deck and have grilled burgers or steaks several times a week.  In the cooler seasons, we put the grill in the garage and grill a little bit less often - but there are a few warmer winter days we can grill if it is a really sunny day and around lunch time; the garage will warm up enough so that we don’t mind cooking out there with the garage door open for however long it takes to get the food cooked.

There is a favorite recipe contest being held at iBuyBarbeques.com - the grand prize is $400! The recipe must include using a grill at some point. If you want to participate in the contest, you need to post your favorite recipe on your own blog and submit the entry URL to dan@ibuystores.com.  Good luck!

It seems to me that there has been a very long, drawn out controversy about whether to allow any casinos in Maine.  This is such a loaded question, on the one hand people are afraid that it will attract more crime; on the other hand people want the extra income.  There are a lot of “NIMBY”s “out there” and to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure that I’d be very happy if a casino were to open up in the town that I live in!  I would like to see any casino that is opened to be totally state run and all profits go to the government to pay for improvements to the schools, the infrastructure, and to improve social services.

I was watching on the television news that at a Rally in Richmond VA today Sarah Palin mistook the hollers from her supporters yelling “louder, louder” because they couldn’t hear her for protesters.  Oops!  She addressed the “protesters” by saying something like she hoped they appreciated the veterans who made their free speech possible.  What an “egg on my face” mistake was that!  I didn’t hear on the news what she said when she found out about her error, but I hope she apologized!
