I was reading an article on the LATimes website that a recent study of bottled water has shown that in many cases the bottled water is no safer than regular tap water. The article did not say what brands of water was tested (and I sure wish it HAD said that) but it indicated that in the ten brands tested there were contaminants such as bacteria and 38 chemicals. The chemicals include caffeine, acetaminophen, fertilizer, solvents, plastic ingredients and strontium (which is radioactive.)

That freaks me out! Bottled water with strontium in it? I’m not sure I’ll ever buy bottled water again! I think I’m better off buying soda if I’m “out and about” and thirsty and without my own refreshment!

I love how the Internet brings the world right into my home, so that the world is at my fingertips!  This afternoon one of my new neighbors came over, telling me that her daughter that lives in San Francisco was having some problems with her car and she was asking me to help her find a great mechanic that specializes in Ford Taurus repair

So I brought her over to my computer and we went to the Repairpal website’s directory to try to find a San Francisco car repair for her daughter. I showed her how to use it the directory to find an auto repair shop anywhere in the country.

One of the things I like about that site is that it helps you to figure out what car repair prices to expect when you need something done to your car.  It also has a page that talks about common problems with different cars - you can fill in the blanks with your own car’s make, model and year and find out if there are any common problems with that car that you can be watching out for!

So I printed out a list of repair shops for her daughter to check into; I hope it helps!

I’ve been reading a few articles lately about how one of the things that is going to “save” the planet, and the economy, is “green jobs.”  “Green jobs” are jobs that are jobs related to work that is going to have a positive impact on our environment.  Yet none of the articles are specific as to exactly WHAT those green jobs are going to be - they are very vague.

The last article that I read indicated that they don’t have to be manual labor jobs, but “green collar jobs” are being considered manual labor jobs.  And the article indicated that people would be making at least $15 an hour to start.  Well, that’s not the BEST money in the world, but it is pretty good starting pay for someone who is just starting out, so I’d like more information on that!  It would be really nice if we could start to see more information about these “green jobs” and how people might get “into” a “green job” whether it is manual labor or otherwise.

In today’s Information Technology field, being certified in a particular area of expertise is always a good idea.  The certified IT professional can expect to make a larger income than a person who is not certified.

There is a website at quickcert.com that sells training materials to help the IT professional to study for the certification exams.  The company has a wide variety of materials, including MCSE, Cisco, and Oracle, just to name a few.

Their website offers free demonstrations and offers you the chance to try out one of their courses (a sample) for free before you commit to spending a dime!

People who are thinking about going into business for themselves are well advised to check out Franchise Opportunities for their business.  What is so great about buying into a franchise is that you ARE the business owner, but you have the training and support from a company that already knows what you need to do and how you need to do it.  So the trial and error part of a new business is a moot point when you buy into a Franchise.  Another benefit is that franchises also provide a large amount of National advertising, which cuts down on advertising costs for the business owner.  The redhotfranchises.com website is the perfect place to get started if you are interested in buying into a franchise.
