Well several of my Thanksgiving dinner guests ended up staying over for the next two nights. That was a very pleasant surprise. It worked out kind of funny - they thought I had invited them for the weekend, and I don’t remember doing that, but it all worked out fine since I really didn’t have any “plans” for the weekend. It’s a good thing we had a lot of extra food from Thanksgiving dinner! And of course, I always have a lot of extra food in the pantry just in case of really bad weather, or really intense laziness hits me, so we had no problem eating. They left earlier this afternoon to head home, I was sorry to see them go. I really enjoyed their company, and I invited them to come back soon!
I’m having a few friends come over for Thanksgiving dinner this year. These are all friends who have no family in the area and would otherwise be spending the day alone. I expect about ten people to attend, so I have been spending the weekend getting the house as “company ready” as I can. Of course for me, that’s probably not as spic and span clean as a lot of other people’s homes - I’m a pretty casual person! But I did sweep down the cobwebs and wash the floors and vacuum the carpets and dust. And of course, made sure the bathroom was clean. I did the shopping and bought a fresh turkey - I plan to cook that the day before Thanksgiving so I don’t have to panic about exactly what time it will be ready to eat on Thursday. Everyone that was invited is supposed to bring a dish, so it will be less work-intensive for me. I do plan to bake some home-made bread Thursday morning! I love home-made bread!
I read on the news today from Amnesty International’s website that Iran has announced that it will stop executing children. That kind of surprised me because I did not realize that Iran executed children the first place! The article continues to explain that this may not apply to children who are convicted of murder, but that in most cases where a child has already been sentenced to execution their sentences will be commuted to life in prison instead.
I don’t know what other crimes a child would have/could have committed to get a death sentence other than murder! I have to say that the customs of other countries when it comes to legal issues sometimes really amaze me!
The past couple of weeks my auto air conditioning clutch has been making a lot of noise. I took it to the local garage and they told me that I will probably need to buy a new air conditioner for my car before next summer. We talked about buying just a clutch, but they said that it would be less expensive in the long run to buy the entire unit of air conditioning compressor with the clutch. They suggested that I try to buy a new A/C compressor from the 1airconditioning.com website. They said that they offer free shipping and do not require a core deposit, so I should be able to save quite a bit of money by buying it from them. So if you’re in the market for a new auto A/C compressor, you might want to check them out too!
This afternoon there was a Veteran’s Day ceremony at the local cemetery. They have one every year; the high school band is there playing a few songs and they have some local dignitaries give speeches. They even have a bagpiper there to play a couple of songs, and the local fire department drives by with their fire trucks and ambulances, their lights flashing. It is a very nice ceremony for such a small town. It was chilly out, though, so I’m really glad I drove extra warm with thermal underwear, fleece lined pants, my winter coat and hat and gloves! Not everyone was that smart; I saw a lot of people shivering during the ceremony!
