Leasing vehicles not as profitable

A recent Time.com report states that Chrysler will discontinue leasing vehicles by the end of the year.  Due to declining residual values on leased sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks, Chrysler has decided to stop leasing vehicles.  Automobile makers are struggling with all aspects of their large gas-guzzlers.  The vehicles that used to be the cash cows of the American auto sales are now their white elephants.  If the American automobile industry wants to stay in business, they are going to have to come up with cars that use less gasoline, or use alternative fuels.  It’s a shame it has taken so long for them to wake up and smell the coffee!

  1. I’m not terribly surprised to hear about this. I think that maybe the American consumer is starting to realize that leasing a vehicle really isn’t the smart way to go in the first place - with all of the stupid extra mileage charges that the leasing companies charge!
